This Privacy Policy describes how Scurix ("we", "us", or "our") collects, uses, and protects information when you use the Scurix Video Background Shopify app. By installing or using the app, you agree to the practices described here.

1 Who we are

Scurix Video Background is a Shopify app developed and operated by Scurix. We build tools for Shopify merchants. If you have any questions about this policy, you can reach us at support@scurix.com.

2 Information we collect

We collect only the data necessary to provide the app's functionality. This includes:

Merchant / store data (collected when you install the app):

  • Your Shopify store domain and store name
  • Your Shopify access token (scoped to the permissions required by the app)
  • Your name and email address as provided in your Shopify account
  • Your store's plan and currency (used to determine feature availability)

App configuration data (created by you within the app):

  • Video URLs you add (YouTube, Vimeo, TikTok links)
  • Optional video labels you create for your own reference
  • Video placement settings: type, CSS selector, target page, playback options
  • App-level settings such as enabled/disabled status

Usage data (collected automatically):

  • App events such as installs, uninstalls, plan changes, and errors
  • Aggregate usage metrics (e.g., number of active videos)

We do not collect any personal data about your customers / end-shoppers beyond what is already available through standard Shopify storefront interactions.

3 How we use your information

We use the collected information solely to:

  • Provide, operate, and maintain the Scurix Video Background app
  • Authenticate your store and apply your plan entitlements
  • Store and serve your video configuration to your storefront
  • Respond to your support requests and troubleshoot issues
  • Send transactional notifications (e.g., billing events, important app updates) — no marketing email without your explicit consent
  • Improve the app and diagnose technical problems using aggregated, anonymised usage data

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with third parties for marketing purposes.

4 Data storage & security

Your data is stored on secured servers. We implement industry-standard measures including:

  • Encryption in transit (HTTPS/TLS) for all data transfers
  • Encryption at rest for stored credentials and sensitive fields
  • Access controls limiting data access to authorised personnel only
  • Regular security reviews of our infrastructure and dependencies

5 Third-party services

The app embeds video content from third-party platforms. When a video is displayed on your storefront, your customers' browsers connect directly to those platforms. Each platform has its own privacy policy:

We do not control how these platforms process data about viewers. You are responsible for disclosing the use of third-party video embeds to your customers in your own store's privacy policy.

We may also use infrastructure or monitoring services (e.g., hosting providers, error tracking) that process data on our behalf under appropriate data processing agreements.

6 Shopify platform

Scurix Video Background is built on the Shopify platform. Your store data is subject to Shopify's Privacy Policy in addition to this policy. We access your store data only through Shopify's official APIs and request only the minimum permission scopes required for the app to function.

7 Cookies

The app admin interface (running inside the Shopify admin) uses session cookies required by Shopify for authentication. We do not place additional tracking cookies on your storefront or in your customers' browsers. Third-party video embeds may set their own cookies — refer to their respective privacy policies.

8 Data retention

We retain your store data for as long as your store has the app installed. When you uninstall the app:

  • Your video configurations and settings are deleted within 30 days
  • Your access token is immediately revoked and deleted
  • Anonymised, aggregated analytics data (not linked to your store) may be retained indefinitely for product improvement

You may request earlier deletion of your data by contacting us at support@scurix.com.

9 Your rights

Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you
  • Correct inaccurate personal data
  • Delete your personal data ("right to be forgotten")
  • Restrict or object to certain processing of your data
  • Data portability — receive your data in a machine-readable format

10 Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. For material changes we will notify you via email or a notice within the app. Continued use of the app after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
