AutoFAQ ("we", "our", or "us") is committed to protecting the privacy of our users. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you install and use the AutoFAQ Shopify application (the "App").
By installing or using the App, you agree to the terms of this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree with the terms of this policy, please do not install or use the App.
Information We Collect
When you install and use AutoFAQ, we may collect the following types of information:
Store Information
- Your Shopify store name and domain
- Store owner email address (as provided by Shopify during installation)
- Shopify access tokens required for the App to function
Product Data
- Product titles, descriptions, tags, and variants
- Product metafields
- This data is used solely to generate relevant FAQ content for your products
Usage Data
- FAQ generation counts and usage statistics
- Feature usage within the App dashboard
- FAQ engagement analytics (views, clicks, expansions) on your storefront
We do not collect: Customer personal data, payment information, order details, or any data unrelated to the FAQ generation functionality of the App.
How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect for the following purposes:
- FAQ Generation: Product data is sent to AI providers (OpenAI and/or Anthropic) to generate FAQ content. This data is processed in real-time and is not stored by the AI providers beyond the immediate request.
- App Functionality: To provide, maintain, and improve the App's features and your experience.
- Usage Tracking: To enforce plan limits and provide usage statistics in your dashboard.
- Analytics: To provide FAQ engagement insights and help you understand how customers interact with your FAQs.
- Support: To respond to your support requests and communicate important updates about the App.
Third-Party Services
AutoFAQ integrates with the following third-party services:
- Shopify: The App operates within the Shopify platform and accesses store data through the Shopify API in accordance with Shopify's API Terms of Service.
- OpenAI / Anthropic: Product data is sent to AI providers to generate FAQ content. These providers process data according to their respective privacy policies and data processing agreements. Data is sent only for the purpose of generating FAQ responses and is not used for model training.
Data Storage & Security
We take reasonable measures to protect your information:
- All data is transmitted using industry-standard encryption (HTTPS/TLS)
- Access tokens and sensitive credentials are stored securely and encrypted
- Generated FAQs are stored as Shopify metafields on your product resources, meaning they remain within your Shopify store
- Session data and App settings are stored in a secured database with restricted access
Data Retention
We retain your data for as long as you have the App installed on your store. When you uninstall the App:
- Your session data and App settings are automatically deleted from our database
- FAQ content stored in your Shopify product metafields will remain in your store (since it belongs to your Shopify data)
- Usage records and analytics data are deleted within 30 days of uninstallation
Your Rights
You have the following rights regarding your data:
- Access: You can request a copy of the data we hold about your store.
- Correction: You can update your information through the App settings.
- Deletion: You can request deletion of your data by uninstalling the App or contacting us directly.
- Portability: FAQ data is stored in standard Shopify metafields and is accessible through Shopify's admin and APIs.
Shopify API Scopes
AutoFAQ requests the following Shopify API permissions:
- read_products: To read product data for FAQ generation
- write_products: To save generated FAQs as product metafields
- read_metaobjects / write_metaobjects: To manage FAQ-related metaobject definitions
We only request the minimum permissions necessary for the App to function. We do not access customer data, orders, or any other store data beyond what is listed above.
Children's Privacy
AutoFAQ is a business-to-business application designed for Shopify merchants. We do not knowingly collect information from children under the age of 13. If you believe we have inadvertently collected such information, please contact us so we can promptly delete it.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make changes, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this policy periodically. Continued use of the App after any modifications constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
